Hey book lovers! We know we’re late but we’re finally getting to this tag! Thank you to Kourtni @KourtniReads for tagging us! Her blog is awesome so be sure to go and check her out! Let’s get started!
- Best book you’ve read so far in 2017.
Dawlyn: The Hate U Give By Angie Thomas I loooved this book so much! Check out our spoilery and spoiler free reviews of this book!
Krista: The Book Thief By: Markus Zusak. A week ago I would have answered the same as Dawlyn. I love The Hate U Give SOOO much, and it is one of my favorite books of all time. However, I just finished The Book Thief and it completely ruined me in the best way! This is now my all time favorite book!
- Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2017.
Dawlyn: Breakable By: Tammarra Webber This book isn’t technically a sequel. It is the second book in a new adult companion series and it is actually the same story as the first book but in the man’s POV. I really enjoyed this book and reading this story from this MC’s perspective.
Krista: The only sequel I have read this year is The Forgotten By: J.A. Templeton. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the first book.
- New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.
Dawlyn: I can’t pick one so here’s a list
–Once and for All By: Sarah Dessen
–Flame in the Mist By: Renee Ahdieh
–When Dimple Met Rishi By: Sandyah Menon
–The Upside of Unrequited By: Becky Albertalli
Krista: Once and for All By: Sarah Dessen. I love Sarah Dessen so much, and cannot wait to read this book!
- Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.
Dawlyn: Wonder Woman Warbringer By: Leigh Bardugo. I saw the movie recently and absolutely loved it! It’s all kinds of amazing and I’m willing to bet this book is going to be amazing too!
Krista: There’s Someone Inside Your House By: Stephanie Perkins. I cannot tell you how hype I am for this book! Scream meets YA?! Come on September… I need this now!!
- Biggest disappointment.
Dawlyn: The F-it LIst By: Julie Halpern I didn’t have any expectations going into this book, so it wasn’t exactly disappointing, but I definitely didn’t like it and I DNFd it about 100 pages in.
Krista: Tigers Curse By: Colleen Houck. This book sounded really interesting (and it was) but I found the main character problematic and annoying.
- Biggest surprise.
Dawlyn: We Were Liars By: E. Lockhart. I wasn’t surprised that I liked this book but I definitely didn’t see the twist coming. I wasn’t ready.
Krista: Matched By: Ally Condie. I had heard that a lot of people didn’t like this book, so I went into it with low expectations. However, I really enjoyed the story, and will definitely be continuing the series!
- Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)
Dawlyn: Angie Thomas. Beautiful. Human. Creature.
Krista: I have to agree with Dawlyn on this! Angie Thomas is everything beautiful in this world!! BUT a close second would be the amazing Nicola Yoon!! AND Sandhya Menon!! AND Erin Summerill!! Ok i’m done! There’s just so many amazingly, beautiful and talented authors that are near to my heart!
- Newest favourite character.
Dawlyn: Cath from Fangirl by: Rainbow Rowell.
Krista: Agree 100% Cath from Fangirl is my spirit animal!
- Book that made you cry.
Dawlyn: The Book Thief By: Markus Zusack. Holy crap. The tears.
Krista: Also, The Book Thief. I’m tearing up just thinking about it.
- Book that made you happy..
Dawlyn: Fangirl by: Rainbow Rowell.
Krista: When Dimple Met Rishi. This book is fantastic! So sweet, so funny, so diverse! It gave me all the smiles!
- Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.
Dawlyn: I’ve only seen Everything Everything this year. Overall, I enjoyed it. Check out our book and adaptation discussion to find out more!
Krista: I’ve also only seen Everytjing Everything!
- Favourite review you’ve written this year.
Dawlyn: My spoilery review for The Hate U Give by: Angie Thomas. Find that review here!
Krista: I really enjoyed writing our book and adaptation discussion of Everything Everything. I had so many thoughts about the book and the movie, and loved getting them all out!
- Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
Dawlyn: Honorable mention goes to The Hufflepuff House 20th Anniversary edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone By: J.K. Rowling. My absolute favorite is Flame in the Mist By: Renee Ahdieh. Beautiful!
Krista: My favorite cover of all the books I’ve bought this year is Ever The Hunted By: Erin Summerill! This book is soooo pretty!!
- What books do you need to read by the end of the year
Dawlyn: So many! Check out my to-read-2017 bookshelf on goodreads! These are almost all of the books that I have either read or plan to read this year!
Krista: There are quite a few! Here is my 2017 Reading Challenge list if you would like to check it out! 2017 Reading Challenge

Oh, and Krista…I actually won an ARC of Stephanie Perkins’ “There’s Someone Inside Your House” and it’s not a book I’m planning on reading. If you would be interested, I’d be okay with mailing it to you.

No problem! I won it as part of a box of 5 books while at BookExpo, and I was only really after 3 of those books. If you want to send me a DM on Twitter or Instagram, or e-mail me at danielle.thamasa@yahoo.com, then I can get it in the mail for you.
