Hey Bookworms! Welcome to our August Calendar Girls Books discussion! In case you don’t know what this is, it is an event that takes place on the first Wednesday of every month. Each month, the creators chose a theme and you pick a book that fits this theme! This event is hosted by, Flavia @Flavia the Bibliophile and Melanie @MNBernard Books. Head over to their blogs to find out more! We’re so excited to be participating in this discussion! This month’s theme is: Best Contemporary. Let’s get started!
So this was a hard one for us because there are so many great contemporaries out there!! We’d like to give honorable mentions to some awesome contenders!!
I’ll Give You The Sun by: Jandi Nelson. We read this book thIs year and we absolutely LOVED it.
The Sun is Also a Star by: Nicola Yoon. This is another book we read this year and it’s one that really took us by surprise. We expected it to be a cute love story but it was so much more than that. It touches on some pretty serious and relevant topics and is very diverse. We both loved this story and we learned some new things toos! Check out our reviews for this book here and here.
The Fault in Our Stars by: John Green. This book is absolutely beautiful, and will always be one of our favorites!
Fangirl by: Rainbow Rowell. We also read this book earlier this year and fell in love. Cath is definitely one of our favorite characters of all time. We related to her so much!
Now for our pick!
The Hate U Give by: Angie Thomas.
We read this earlier this year and we fell in love. This book means so much to both of us because of it’s relevance to what’s going on in our world today. This book is great for so many different reasons! In addition to it being relevant, important, and diverse; it is also written wonderfully, has a beautiful family dynamic, and really lovable characters. We think everyone should read this book! Please check out our Spoiler Free and Spoilery reviews for more of our thoughts on this beautiful novel!
Thanks so much for taking the time out to read our post! We’re so happy to be participating in the Calendar GIrls event and we look forward to hearing from others who are participating in it as well. Let us know if you’ve read this book and feel free to share links to your Calendar Girls post!!
