Hey, Bookworms! Welcome to November Calendar Girls Books. In case you don’t know what this is, it is an event that takes place on the first Monday of every month. Each month, a theme is voted on and you pick a book that fits this theme! This event was formerly hosted by, Flavia @FlaviatheBibliophile and Melanie @MNBernard Books. The event is now hosted by Katie @NeverNotReading and Adrienne @DarqueDreameRreads Head over to their blogs to find out more! We’re so excited to be participating in this discussion! This month’s theme is: Not Quite the End (Best Middle Book in a Series). Let’s get started!
Before we get into our pick, here are some honorable mentions:
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by: J.K. Rowling. Dawlyn: It’s always been a tie between this one and Half-Blood Prince for me.
Lola and the Boy Next Door by: Stephanie Perkins. This one is Krista’s favorite out of the series!
Cress by: Marissa Meyer. We’ve raved about how much we love this entire series, and as middle books go, this was a great one as it introduced us to a world we’d only been hearing about in the books prior, and gave us an awesome twist on the story of Rapunzel.
Now for our pick…
Down among the Stick and Bones by: Seanan McGuire. This is the second book in the Wayward Children’s series. There are three currently out with the fourth to be released in January 2019. We both recently read the first three books and absolutely loved them. Seanan McGuire’s writing is beautiful and her ability to fit such vivid worlds and fleshed out characters into such short stories is beyond us. This second installment really stood out to us for many reasons. In the first book we multiple different characters with different stories, all living out out a mystery to be solved. Each character was brought to the same world through different doors under different circumstances. The second book follows two characters and what their lives were before entering the world in first story. We can’t say much without spoiling the first book, however, the story of these characters was so wonderfully pieced together and it has us so excited to hopefully focus more on other characters backstories in future installments. This series really packs a punch and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique fantasy world to jump into.
Thanks so much for taking the time out to read our post! We’re so happy to be participating in the Calendar GIrls event and we look forward to hearing from others who are participating in it as well. Let us know if you’ve read this book and feel free to share links to your September Calendar Girls!
I’ve read the HP book and Cress for your choices and loved both 😀

Excellent choice! I will be reading the fourth book soon, and I’m hopeful that it will be just as great as the rest of them.

There’s just so much room for growth and expansion considering the multitude of characters and worlds. It’s awesome, honestly.

Ooooooo, that sounds really interesting! Kind of in the same vein as what I’m reading now, “The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle”. I’ll have to add it!

I’ve seen this one on another list today. And that’s a tough decision between Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince.
